About the exhibition:
‘Strata – a Stitched Excavation’ represents the culmination of two years of research, workshops and reflective work by the Phoenix Contemporary Textile Group.
The group explores this theme through varied perspectives – geological, geographical, social, historical and abstract – to produce vibrant hangings, 3D work and collaborative pieces.
The members of the Group are lively, like-minded textile artists working in diverse methods and media: stitch, cloth, paper, felt, dye and paint. Ten members will be showing innovative works on the theme of Strata.
Each artist works within their chosen medium, producing small and large pieces of work. Their goal is to explore their own creativity, to be challenged and to push the boundaries of what is perceived. In today’s world of mass production it is important that artists are given the opportunity and freedom to explore and express their own individual ideas in a creative way.
