Oatlands Village Fayre – Overview

The Oatlands Village Fayre will take place on Saturday 12th May 2018, 12.30 to 4.30 pm at Oatlands Recreation Ground, Oatlands Drive, Weybridge.

This hugely popular event raises funds for the Guides, Scouts and other local charities, and is a great day out for families and people of all ages.

The Fayre opens at 12.30 with the Oatlands Pipe Band. There’s a whole host of fun activities, ranging from events in the main arena to refreshment tents, tombola, Punch and Judy and many other stalls.

This year the main arena event will be the Galloping Acrobats Horse Display, an entertaining and popular display form an earlier year, returning by public demand!.

There will be many exciting stalls around the arena, that enable you to find out about local organisations, buy tickets for the tombola or other prize winning events. There is even an opportunity to smash plates!

We always have a great selection of cakes, refreshments, burgers and other foods, so don’t eat lunch before you come.

Programme available for presale or at the gates, price £1.

Main Event – Galloping Acrobats Horse Display

Galloping Acrobatics specialise in providing flamboyant vaulting based horse displays, arena acts and entertainment for events and shows throughout the UK.  All our shows aim to inspire, delight, enchant and excite, whilst also provide an insight into the amazing world of equestrian performance art.

From the minute Galloping Acrobatics enter the arena you will be mesmerised by the remarkable feats of gymnastic, acrobatic and equestrian skill on display. Gaze in awe as Tinker and Casper thunder past with Rosie standing on their two backs.

Laugh as Casper catches things in his mouth before admiring his high stepping Spanish walk. Watch in amazement as Tinker skips around the arena with a giant five metre skipping rope, and then has his bridle removed to be vaulted on at complete liberty. Ask Casper a mathematics question – multiplication or division today? The incredible level of communication between Rosie and her horses will have you enthralled from start to finish.

Following each display a twenty minute meet and greet session allows for you to ask questions and interact with all performers – human and equine!

Other Main Arena Events

The Fayre opens at 12.30 with the Oatlands Pipe Band. There will be a range of other events throughout the afternoon from local community groups.

Local scouts and cubs usually provide two events, one being the annual tug of war challenge.  A dancing display or cheerleaders display is also a regular favourite. More Info About Oatlands Village Fayre

Oatlands Village Fayre is a traditional village fayre that was started in 1953 and has been running continuously since 1962.

It is organised primarily by parents and friends of Oatlands Scout and Guide Groups for the enjoyment of local people and is a well established local community event.

Initially it was held in the Working Men’s Club in Oatlands Village, Weybridge but it soon outgrew this site and relocated to its present site at the Oatlands Recreation Ground, opposite Oatlands Park Hotel.

The Fayre attracts 4,000 paying visitors and has 50 stalls manned by volunteers or commercial organisations. Each year there is always a main attraction. But there will also be the Cleves School Steel Pans, the Cubs Tug of War competition and the Oatlands Pipe Band, amongst other displays.

This is a fund raising event but it is also a special local community day. Old acquaintances/friendships are re-made and community well-being and spirit is strengthened. It typically raises in the region of £10,000 – £15,000 each year for many local charities including the local Scouts and Guides packs, Walton Leigh School for Special Needs, Youth Carers, Oatlands School, and Cleves School.

Good Causes Helped
The proceeds raised and distributed benefit Oatlands Scouts, Guides, Beavers, Eiger and Viking Explorer Scouts and the following local charities and good causes:

St John Ambulance, Oatlands Pipe Band, St Mary’s Church Oatlands, Oatlands Infants School, Cleves School, St James School, Mencap of Walton, Samaritans, Lower Mole Countryside Trust, Elmbridge Community Link, Young Carers of Elmbridge, Weybridge District Rangers, Surrey Air Ambulance, Woking & Sam Beare Hospice, The Clubhouse Project, Walton Leigh School for Special Needs, Oatlands Village Hall, Oatlands Bowling Club, Oatlands Pipe Band, Help Uganda Trust, Weybridge Youth Club, Runnymede Teens, White Lodge, Surrey Scouts Radio Team.

In addition, groups benefit by having stalls at the fayre. In recent years these have included:
Cancer Research, Lower Mole Project, RNLI, 1st Walton (Viking) Sea Scouts, 1st Weybridge Scouts, 4th Weybridge Scouts, 4th Weybridge Cubs.

Thanks To Sponsors
We would like to thank our sponsors Martin Flashman Estate Agents and Oatlands Glass, plus Furniture and Fireplaces who sponsor the Burger Bar. Special thanks go also to Waitrose in Weybridge who make staff available for help both before and after the fayre.
