Light Up A Life At Christmas Services – Woking & Sam Beare Hospices

Services in Weybridge, Woking & Egham

Remember a loved one this Christmas with Woking & Sam Beare Hospices – Services in Weybridge, Woking & Egham

Woking & Sam Beare Hospices will hold four Light up a Life services this year, where members of the community can honour the memories of loved ones.

Each will last around an hour and will feature special readings from hospice staff and volunteers, as well as the chance for all to join voices with traditional carols and music. People are encouraged to dedicate a memory star, which will be displayed at the churches, to remember a loved one. All the names will also be added to a virtual Memory Book that can be viewed on the Hospices website.

Mark Boast lost his wife Helen, to cancer nearly 3 years ago. He will attend the services again this year to celebrate Helen’s memory and talks here about the care his family have received through the Hospices: “The Hospice has been absolutely incredible throughout our whole journey. The children have all been to counselling groups. Amy still goes to Footsteps, and I go as often as I can to visit all of the people who helped us so much in such a tragic time. I have also had counselling which has been a huge help.”

About the event Mark Boast said “I think Helen would feel that Light up a Life is the perfect Christmas celebration, because of where it is and what it means. It’s in a church but it’s not a strictly religious service. Everyone is welcome to the special spiritual place to celebrate and remember the people who are not with us anymore.”

Memory Stars carrying personal messages of remembrance and love, will be displayed in a position of honour at each event.

This year we will also be holding a non-religious celebration for families at the new Hospice, led by Independent Celebrant, Mary Morgan.
This is a very special occasion for all those who attend. It’s a chance to take some time out to remember those we have lost – in a gathering of others who are all going through the same personal journeys. Light up a Life is often sad and joyful at the same time; but always immensely fulfilling for guests, hospice staff and volunteers alike.
The service is free to attend, donations are welcome.
